Before your Event

We recommend asking someone you trust to care for your bouquet on the big day so your flowers don’t get lost or damaged. If you plan on having a flower toss at your reception, consider using a bridesmaid’s bouquet instead. Bruises and petal damage from being bumped/tossed can take days to appear on your florals. Below is the list of items you’ll want to gather in advance.

  • Adequate Size Box (you want the bouquet to fit snugly without crushing the petals/leaves)

  • Packing Paper (or similar item)

  • Paper Towels

  • Plastic Bag or Saran Wrap

  • Rubber Band/Hair Tie

  • Black Sharpie or Marker

Packing your Blooms

Immediately after the event cut 1/2”-1” off of the stems and place the bouquet in clean water. Keep your flowers in a cool space away from direct sunlight,

1. Remove the bouquet from the water and immediately wrap the bottom of the stems in damp paper towels until the ends of the stems are completely covered.

2. Completely wrap the paper towel covered stems in a plastic bag or saran wrap. The plastic bag should not cover or touch any of the flower petals. Securely wrapping the stems with plastic is an essential step in the shipping process. Without this step your flowers will dry and wilt in transit.

3. Use a rubber band or tape to tightly secure the plastic around the wrapped stems.

4. Create a makeshift “vase” or nest for your flowers in the bottom of the shipping box using packing paper. You can also use a smaller cardboard box for this step if one is available. Place the bouquet (stems down) into the nest.

5. Add crumpled paper around the bouquet where necessary to ensure it is secure without being crushed. You simply want to limit the flower’s ability to bump around inside the box in transit.

6. Close and seal the box.

7. Using a black sharpie or marker label the box as "fragile" on multiple sides. You will also need to write “this side up” with an arrow pointing upward so that the flowers are oriented “up” and the stems are facing “down”. Finally, if the bride’s name is not on the shipping label, please write it on the outside of the box or send me the tracking number for the package.

Shipping Speed

Getting your flowers to the studio as soon as possible is extremely important to the preservation process. The fresher the flowers, the better they will press and retain their color. If the flowers do not arrive in usable condition, we cannot proceed with the preservation process. If this happens, I can source replacement flowers from my local florist.

Due to the importance of receiving your blooms in good condition, we request you ship your flowers within 24-48 hours of your event and use 2-day shipping. We need to receive them at the studio within 4 days of your wedding in most cases. If more than 48 hours has passed since the event, you must overnight the flowers to the studio. Please be sure that no signature is required at delivery.

Please ship flowers to “A Leaf in the Night” at the following address: 26 E 350 N, North Salt Lake, UT 84054.
